Edven Ying is on track for his second Toyota Tour win after shooting a five-under 67 and giving him a narrow lead going into tomorrow’s final round at Penang Golf Resort.

Ying, who won the 2023 Vios Cup at Templer Park Country Club, now holds a two-day total of four-under 140, leading Marcus Lim by one stroke. Just a shot behind are Hui Yong Sherng, Harrier Cup winner Fakhrul Akmal, and Fortuner Cup champion Ben Leong, all at two-under 142.

Ying credited his short game for his seven birdies and two bogeys, including one on the 484-yard Par-4 fourth hole, the hardest on the 7,143-yard course.

“My putting improved today, but my iron play was only about 70 percent,” said the 22-year-old Ying. “I’m leading by one stroke, but being in the lead is what counts. I was in a similar position last year at Templer Park, so I feel confident going into tomorrow.”

Fakhrul showed his ability to go low, firing a six-under 30 on the front nine, bouncing back from his two-over 38 in the first round. Play was delayed for three hours due to rain, with the final flight teeing off at 1:00 p.m.

Lim was satisfied with his game but regretted missing a two-foot birdie putt on his final hole. Last year, he won the Supra Cup as an amateur, defeating Ervin Chang in a playoff at the Mines Resort & Golf Club.

Seven players broke par today, and 45 made the cut at nine-over 153. The Toyota Tour is organized by Professional Golf Malaysia and delivered by MST Golf.

In the Ladies Championship, Zulaikah Nasser leads by five strokes after a four-under 68. The 22-year-old, who turned pro in August, won the Harrier Cup recently and had a quiet front nine before five birdies on the back.

“I’m happy to be leading again in just my second professional event,” said Zulaikah. “I’ll stick to my game plan tomorrow and see how it goes.”

Geraldine Wong and amateur Winnie Ng, who shot the second-best score of 70, are tied for third, seven strokes behind Zulaikah.
